On Wednesday, August 20th the Massachusetts AFL-CIO will join workers, labor leaders, community-labor allies, and elected officials will rally outside an all day seminar conducted by HR Hero, an anti-union employment law consulting firm. In a display of union solidarity, the IBEW and CWA representatives of unionized Verizon workers prioritized the organizing struggles of non-union Verizon Business Technicians while at the bargaining table. In a victory for 600 technicians, the union won representation for the Verizon Business workers who gathered a certified majority of signatures nearly two years ago. Click the headline for more.

The IBEW and CWA have reached a new three year contract agreement with Verizon that is now pending ratification. The new deal includes the protection and expansion of good union jobs, increases wages and pensions, and maintains current health care coverage of active workers and retirees. Employee Free Choice Act -- AFL-CIO

After more than five hours of historic debate, the House of Representatives passed the most important labor law reform legislation in 70 years.

By a margin of 241 to 185, the House passed H.R. 800, which would level the playing field when workers seek to form a union and bargain. Thirteen Republicans joined 228 Democrats in voting for the bill. Two Democrats and 183 Republicans voted against the bill.
