Barack Obama’s historic election as president last week has instilled a sense of hope and change within America’s labor movement.

Unions see Obama as potentially the most supportive president for their agenda in decades - and even those who generally oppose labor say there could be widespread and historic labor-market changes during Obama’s first year in office.
